Two convicted of North Natomas murder each get 40 to life

The two men convicted of second-degree murder in a Oct. 24, 2009, shooting death outside a North Natomas night club were each sentenced today to 40 years to life in prison.

Sacramento Superior Court Judge Ernest W. Sawtelle imposed the terms on Nicholas Leathel Newsome, 23, and Sean Lekeith Joyner, also 23, for the killing of David Blanks, 22.

The two were each sentenced to 15 years-to-life on the murder conviction plus 25 years-to-life for the use of the gun. Authorities said the killing, which took place outside the now-shuttered club that used to be owned by former Sacramento Kings basketball star Chris Webber, was gang related.
