A daylong search of Camp Far West Lake in south Yuba County failed to locate a missing fisherman whose kayak was found capsized in the lake.
Lt. Damon Gil of the Yuba County Sheriff's Department said the search will resume early Friday.
Gil said the Sheriff's Department received a call about 5 a.m. today from family members who reported that the man, who Gil declined to name, had failed to call or return home the previous night. The family reported that he often fished alone at Camp Far West Lake.
Sheriff's deputies found the man's pickup and boat trailer parked at the lake. They also spoke to individuals who said they had found a capsized kayak and brought it to shore. Gil said deputies were able to confirm that the kayak belonged to the missing man.
The search initially focused on the lake shore and trails in the area. In addition to the ground search, Gil said an air search was conducted by the California Highway Patrol and Placer County Sheriff's Department. Finding no sign of the man on shore, three boats, two from the Yuba County Sheriff's Department and one from Placer County Sheriff's Department, searched the lake using side-scan sonar.
Gill said today's search ended about 6 p.m.
