Timothy Navarro, 20, was booked into Sacramento County jail on suspicion of felony vandalism.
At about 10:45 p.m. a citizen reported that somebody was spray painting graffiti on the freeway signs on Highway 99 near 12th Avenue. Responding California Highway Patrol officers saw fresh graffiti on northbound and southbound signs -- and a man standing on a highway sign catwalk.
The CHP requested help from the Sacramento Police Department and shortly after 11 p.m., city officers had somebody who matched the tagger's description. CHP officers responded and took the suspect, Navarro, into custody.
The CHP said in a press release that Navarro had fresh paint on his clothing and hands.
