A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of cruelty to animals in connection with an incident earlier this month in which a cat was set on fire in West Sacramento.
On May 2, a citizen reported a cat was on fire in the 100 block of Circle Street. Yolo County Animal Control officers responded and took the cat to the UC Davis Veterinary Hospital for treatment. The cat was later euthanized because of the severity of the burns.
Police said veterinarians treating the cat determined that an accelerant may have been used to set the cat on fire.
There were no witnesses on scene and no one came for ward with information, but police said the detective assigned to the case was able to establish leads that led to the teenager's arrest this morning.
