Three Lincoln residents hit by dozing driver

Three people were injured this morning in Lincoln when a driver fell asleep at the wheel and ran into them.

Lincoln police were called to Sun City Boulevard and Tiger Lily Lane about 9 a.m. where they found three injured women in the intersection. The car that hit the three had stopped after the collision, police said.

The women, two of them 61 years old and the third 64 years old, were transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center. Two of the women had moderate injuries and the third minor injuries.

The 71-year-old driver told officers he fell asleep at the wheel just before failing to come to a halt at a stop sign, then hitting the pedestrians, according to Lincoln police. The driver was issued a citation for failure to stop and a request will be sent to the state Department of Motor Vehicles to re-test the motorist's driving ability.
