Burglary suspects evade police after chase in Citrus Heights

Citrus Heights police are investigating a burglary this morning that led to a fruitless car and foot chase around San Juan Avenue and Farmgate Way.

Citrus Heights Police Officer Chad Morris said two men dressed all in black were burglarizing a cigarette shop around 5 a.m. when police starting tearing after them. The two men hopped into a truck that police later found to be stolen.

After a brief vehicle chase, the men jumped out in a Citrus Heights neighborhood, causing the police to set up a perimeter around San Juan Avenue and Farmgate Way. Although police brought in K-9 units and investigated the area, they were unable to locate the suspects.

As of 8:30 a.m., Morris said police had broken their perimeter and were performing secondary searches in case the suspects have "hunkered down somewhere." The truck may also contain useful evidence - Morris said it appears to contain some articles of clothing.

Neither of the men appeared to have weapons, but Morris warned they could still be dangerous.
