Citrus Heights police are investigating vandalism that included broken windows and other damage at four schools in the city over the weekend.
The vandals hit Mesa Verde High School at 7501 Carriage Drive and nearby Carriage Drive Elementary School at 7519 Carriage Drive, as well as Sylvan Middle School at 7137 Auburn Blvd. and neighboring Citrus Heights Elementary School at 7085 Auburn Blvd.
Officers responded to Mesa Verde High School at 10:42 p.m. Sunday after a citizen reported seeing a large hole in a school window with broken glass on the ground. Police determined that the school had been entered and notified San Juan Unified School District personnel, according to a Police Department news release.
About 6:22 a.m. today, Carriage Drive Elementary School officials notified police that two small classroom windows had been broken. Two classrooms had been ransacked and one computer was damaged.
At 7:13 a.m., Sylvan Middle School officials reported that they arrived this morning to find 10 classroom windows broken, several classrooms vandalized and other school property damaged. As a precaution, police said, students were kept away from the damaged classrooms until school personnel could clean the area.
The fourth incident was reported at 8:11 a.m. today at Citrus Heights Elementary, where officials found one classroom window broken.
Police said neither students nor school personnel were present when the vandalism occurred. Officials said the investigation has produced leads as to who may be responsible.
Anyone with additional information regarding the incidents is asked to call Citrus Heights Police at (916) 727-5500.
