The Citrus Heights Police Department will conduct a workshop June 16 for teenagers and their parents focusing on the importance of traffic safety.
Officials cite statistics showing that for both men and women, drivers age 16 to 19 years old have the highest average annual crash and traffic violation rates of any age group. Traffic crashes also are the leading cause of death for teenagers nationwide.
The traffic safety workshop will focus on driver safety, rules of the road, distracted driving, driving under the influence and safety statistics. Parents and teenagers are encouraged to help address the safety concerns.
The workshop is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon at the Citrus Heights Community Center, 6300 Fountain Square Drive, Citrus Heights. To register, call Sgt. Jason Russo at (916) 727-5578.
Funding for the event is provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
