The age of a baby whose body was found along a street in an undeveloped subdivision in Newcastle on Thursday has been determined by the Placer County coroner to be "near term."
Sheriff's officials said no other information about the infant, including the sex, is being released for investigative reasons.
A woman was walking on Green Hills Court about 4:55 p.m. when she reported to a deputy who happened to be in the area that she had seen a trash bag off the side of the road and that it had a foul odor. The deputy checked the bag and found the body.
Detectives were called to the scene and canvassed nearby neighborhoods. Officials said the body was found in an undeveloped subdivision known as Green Hills Estates, off Newcastle Road.
Detectives are asking the public's help in finding the mother of the infant. Anyone who knows of a recently pregnant female who is no loner pregnant and does not have a baby is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at (530) 889-7800.
Anyone who wishes to remain anonymous and to be eligible for a cash award of up to $1,000 is asked to call Placer County Crime Stoppers at (800) 923-8191. All calls are confidential.
