Galt police believe bomb used to blow up car on Sunday

The Galt Police Department and Sacramento County Sheriff's Explosive Ordinance Detail are investigating an incident last weekend in which they believe an explosive device was used to blow up a car.

Around 5:15 p.m. Sunday, Galt police responded to reports of a Chevy Tahoe engulfed in smoke in the 200 block of North Lincoln Way.

Lt. Brian Vizzusi said the bomb might have been an M80 or an M100, commercially sold devices that are illegal to possess in California.

"It's basically like a big firecracker," he said. He added that the device might also have been homemade.

Vizzusi said the police are still unsure why the device was planted and whether the person was targeting the vehicle's owner.
