A man is accused of killing his 66-year-old aunt in Redding this morning.
A Redding Police Department news release states that Cody William Nash, 30, confessed in an interrogation to murdering Candice Watson and attempting to murder Lynn "Robert" Watson, 68.
Officers responding to the 4100 block of Boston Avenue at about 5:30 a.m. found Robert Watson in front of his neighbor's house with lacerations on his upper body. Watson, the former superintendent of Redding's Grant Elementary School District, was transported to Mercy Medical Center and remains in critical condition there.
The press release states officers found Candice Watson dead in her garage and Nash, who lives in Oregon, inside the house with cuts on his hands.
Sgt. Bill Schueller said police believe Nash's cuts were from broken glass inside the house. The weapon police believe he used against the Watsons was "a large kitchen knife," Schueller said.
Nash was transported to Shasta Regional Medical Center for treatment, and is being booked at the Shasta County Jail on charges of murder, attempted murder, and assault with a deadly weapon. Police are investigating why Nash committed the crime, the news release states.
