Sheriff's detectives make arrest in Arden Arcade shooting

By Max Ehrenfreund

The Sacramento Sheriff's Department has made an arrest in connection with the fatal shooting of Eddie Jackson in Arden Arcade Wednesday night.

Wilkins Owens, 23, was arrested in Antioch at around 3:30 this morning. He has been brought back to Sacramento County and jailed, according to a press release from the department.

Deputies responded to the 700 block of Carro Drive about 10:40 p.m. Wednesday when citizens reported shots being heard in the area. A witness told deputies that a man suffering from a gunshot wound had been placed in a car and driven from the area.

Moments later, a deputy was contacted by several people in a vehicle at a convenience store at Fulton and Northrop avenues. They told the deputy that a man in their car had been shot in his upper body.

Responding paramedics pronounced Jackson dead at the scene. Jackson suffered a gunshot injury in an alley off Carro Drive, south of Northrop Avenue, according to a sheriff's press release.

Sheriff's Department detectives believe the two men were acquainted, but are still investigating the details of the shooting.
