The Woodland Police Department arrested a man Saturday following a reported attempted robbery in a Wal-Mart parking lot.
Police booked an Ohio man, 38-year-old John Smith, at the Yolo County Jail on several charges, including suspicion of attempted robbery and driving a stolen vehicle.
About 9 a.m., bystanders reported that a woman was lying on the ground in the parking lot at 1720 E. Main St. after Smith had tried to steal her purse, according to a department news release.
The victim told officers that Smith had struck her in the face, but that he did not succeed in stealing her purse, and that he fled in a blue Chevrolet Tahoe, the press release stated.
Police found the car, and Smith led them on a short chase that ended in the parking lot of the Motel 6 at 1564 E. Main St., where he was apprehended without incident, according to the press release.
The victim was transported to Woodland Memorial Hospital for her injuries, which were not life-threatening.
