QUESTION: A deputy district attorney in El Dorado County was arrested last year for driving under the influence. What was the outcome of that case?
Submitted by: Anonymous, Sacramento
ANSWER: Deputy District Attorney Gloria Mas was arrested in the early afternoon of July 25, 2011, at the El Dorado County District Attorney's Office after witnesses said she drove into the parking lot there, appearing to be intoxicated.
According to Mas' arrest report, released by the California Highway Patrol, she told a CHP officer that she consumed two vodka tonics between noon and 1 p.m. while at home for lunch and then drove to the office.
District Attorney Vern Pierson referred the case to the state Attorney General's Office because of potential conflict in prosecuting a staff member.
According to an El Dorado County Superior Court spokesperson, Mas on Dec. 20 pleaded no contest to driving under the influence. She was sentenced to four years of informal probation, and ordered to attend a school for first-time DUI offenders and pay a fine of $2,232.
