QUESTION: Do you know any details regarding a car accident where Lisa Newman was killed? She was attending Del Campo High School at the time and this was probably the late '90s.

ANSWER: Lisa Jane Newman, a 16-year-old Del Campo High School student and Carmichael resident, was killed in February 1999 when the car she was driving was hit broadside in the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 near Watt Avenue.
According to a story in The Bee, Newman apparently lost control of her 1993 Toyota Camry as she was entering the freeway and the car skidded in the rain into oncoming traffic. It was struck by a van driven by a Hillsborough woman.
Newman was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers in her vehicle were treated for injuries at U.C. Davis Medical Center. The driver of the van suffered minor injuries.
