A Carmichael man died this evening when the motor scooter he was riding struck a telephone pole along Fair Oaks Boulevard.
The single-vehicle crash occurred about 9:30 p.m. California Highway Patrol spokeswoman Officer Lizz Dutton said the man, believed to be in his mid-50s, was eastbound on Fair Oaks Boulevard east of Marshall Avenue in Carmichael on a Honda Elite motor scooter when he apparently drifted off the roadway.
The scooter hit a fence around a telephone pole, and the rider then hit the pole. Dutton said the man was wearing a helmet.
He was transported to Mercy San Juan Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The man's name has not been released pending notification of family.
Dutton said investigators would like to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call the CHP office at (916) 338-6710, or the dispatch center at (916) 861-1300.
