Citrus Heights woman pleads no contest to embezzlement

A Citrus Heights woman has pleaded no contest in Sacramento Superior Court to embezzling from her employer.

In 2010-11, Jewel Taheerah Carbone, 34, was an escrow clerk at Fidelity National Title Co. As part of her duties, Carbone oversaw the collection and disbursement of monies from various escrow accounts. She illegally diverted funds from 22 escrow accounts into her personal bank accounts, resulting in a theft of $42,950, according to a Sacramento County District Attorney's Office news release.

Carbone is to be sentenced Aug. 31 by Superior Court Judge Lloyd Connelly.

According the District Attorney's Office, Carbone will be placed on five years probation and ordered to serve up to one year in county jail, of which 90 days must be served in custody and the remainder on a sheriff's work release program. She also will be ordered to pay restitution.
