A 21-year-old Colfax man was taken into custody Friday evening after he allegedly stole a vehicle and led officers on a short, high-speed chase in Truckee.
According to a news release from the Truckee Police Department, the man stole a utility truck from within the Coldstream Valley recreation area, which is part of Donner Memorial State Park.
When confronted by state parks police, the man refused to stop and led the parks police, joined by Truckee police units, on a chase, ramming the state parks police vehicle in the process, authorities said.
The suspect then rammed through a large gate at the Coldstream access point and entered Interstate 80.
The chase continued on I-80 for a short distance until the stolen vehicle became disabled -- either from the collision with the gate or spike strips deployed during the chase.
The man, whose name is not yet available, was taken into custody without further incident. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
