A Folsom resident and a burglary suspect were injured as they fought over a shotgun early this morning.
Folsom police reported receiving a frantic call from a resident who said he had disarmed an intruder in his home and was holding the suspect at gunpoint.
Officers responded to the 200 block of Dean Way as the alleged intruder fled from the house wielding a shotgun and attempted to leave in a vehicle, according to a Police Department news release.
The victim told dispatchers that he arrived home and found a stranger in his bedroom armed with a shotgun. As the two men struggled over the gun three rounds were fired.
Eventually the victim was able to disarm his assailant and hold him at gunpoint while he called police. As officers arrived, however, the suspect grabbed the shotgun from the victim and ran from the house.
Officers saw the suspect, later identified as Kevin Lloyd Olson (pictured), 21, of Folsom, as he ran from the house with the shotgun in hand. Olson drove away with officers in pursuit. The chase continued for less than a mile before Olson was cornered and taken into custody without incident, officials said.
No one was injured by the shotgun rounds, which were fired into the ceiling and walls. The injuries suffered by the victim and suspect occurred during the physical fight.
Olson was booked into Sacramento County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, burglary and evading police.
