Sacramento County Sheriff's investigators are wrapping up their excavation of an Arden-Arcade back yard after a full day of searching for evidence in the case of a woman missing since 2008.
A sheriff's deputy will keep watch over the site tonight, and detectives and crime scene investigators are expected to return early Thursday for further excavation.
The case involves Regina Garcia, who was 33 years old when she was reported missing from the residence, in the 1600 block of Stewart Drive, said Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputy Jason Ramos. He said the execution of today's search warrant was the result of several pieces of information that came together in recent months and piqued the interest of detectives.
"Further investigation recently has resulted in us wanting to take a closer look around," Ramos said.
Ramos said there are no suspects in the case.
Garcia was reported missing in October 2008 by her boyfriend, Randy Macedo, who is now 56. Ramos confirmed that sheriff's deputies arrested Macedo in June on suspicion of various weapons and drugs charges; however, he said Macedo's arrest had nothing to do with the missing person case.
Macedo is being held at the Sacramento County Main Jail in lieu of more than $1 million in bail.
Detectives unearthed no remains today, Ramos said, but they did carry out several bags of potential evidence. The search will continue Thursday.
