Three residents of the Olivehurst area have been arrested in Nevada County, accused of arranging a date with a Grass Valley man with the intent of robbing him.
Shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday, Grass Valley police responded to the parking lot of the Station House in the 1300 block of East Main Street regarding the armed robbery of a 64-year-old man. Witnesses told police that three people fled in a vehicle, leaving behind the injured victim. Police broadcast a description of the vehicle to area law enforcement agencies, and it was stopped by Nevada County sheriff's deputies in Penn Valley minutes later, according to a Police Department news release.
Taken into custody were Ryan Weeks, 25, Debbie Sutton, 32, and a 16-year-old.
The victim told police that he was on a "date" with Sutton but later realized that she had conspired with the two other suspects to beat and rob him of the cash in his wallet. Police said the man identified the suspects and the cash was recovered.
Based on further investigation, police allege that the suspects originally planned to carry out a home invasion robbery while the victim slept but decided to rob him by force instead. The suspects allegedly published an ad on Craigslist to lure the man into a date with Sutton with the intent of robbing him, police said.
The three were arrested on suspicion of criminal conspiracy and first-degree robbery.
Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to call the Grass Valley Police Department at (530) 477-4600.
