QUESTION: How is the trial going for the suspects of the Michael Sanderson shooting at an apartment complex in Carmichael? Has it started? What are the charges for the five suspects?

ANSWER: The five defendants in the case remain in Sacramento County Jail. According to Sacramento Superior Court online records, all are scheduled for a preliminary hearing Aug. 17.
Awaiting trial in the July 29, 2011, shooting death of 54-year-old Michael Sanderson are Jeanette Campbell, 24, Patrick Godines, 27, Travis Mabson, 32, Patrick McPherson, 25, and Aubrey Toews, 22. All are charged with murder, burglary and attempted robbery.
According to stories in The Bee, a witness told sheriff's investigators that two men burst into Sanderson's apartment in the 5700 block of Marconi Avenue in Carmichael shortly after midnight. One suspect held the witness down in one room while the other went into a different room and robbed, then shot Sanderson.
