QUESTION: Whatever happened with the case against Elton John Cross, accused of shooting his girlfriend more than 10 years ago?
Submitted by: Adriha, Sacramento
ANSWER: In October 2002, Elton John Cross walked into the Sacramento County Jail and admitted shooting his girlfriend, according to a story in The Bee.
Police officers were sent to his home in the 3300 block of Calla Lily Way in South Natomas. There they found the body of 43-year-old Lora Heredia-Williams.
Cross was subsequently arrested, and a Sacramento County jury in February 2004 convicted him of first-degree murder.
Authorities said Cross had a history of domestic violence, including a conviction of spousal abuse in 1988 for which he was placed on probation. In 1997, he pleaded guilty to brandishing a firearm and was given three year's probation and 10 days in county jail.
According to Sacramento Superior Court online records, Cross was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for Heredia-Williams' murder. Now 54 years old, he is in California Mens Colony in San Luis Obispo.
