QUESTION: Whatever happened to Joseph Simlick of Loomis, who was charged with killing his ex-girlfriend's parents, Jack and Susan Martin, in Sutter County in July 2010?
Submitted by: Bob, El Dorado Hills
ANSWER: Joseph Hayden Simlick, 23, remains in Sutter County Jail, where he is being held without bail, charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the death of Jack and Susan Martin.
Prosecutors have said they intend to seek the death penalty in the trial scheduled for next April.
Simlick has pleaded not guilty to the slayings.
The Martins, both 46, were found July 30, 2010, in their burned-out home on Mulberry Street in the town of Sutter, west of Yuba City.
According to news accounts, Simlick had dated the Martins' youngest daughter. He is accused repeatedly stabbing the couple and setting fire to their house after their daughter sought to end her relationship with him.
Simlick is also charged with falsely imprisoning the Martins' daughter five days before her parents' death.
