Bicyclist gravely wounded after collision in Rancho Cordova

A bicyclist sustained serious injuries in a collision with a vehicle outside the Mather Field light rail station in Rancho Cordova this evening.

Sacramento Sheriff's Department spokesman Deputy Jason Ramos said the collision occurred just before 8:45 p.m. at the intersection of Folsom Boulevard and Mather Field Road. The bicyclist, a teenage boy, pulled into the eastbound lanes of Folsom Boulevard against a green light, Ramos said. He was struck and dragged along the road 50 to 60 feet.

He was transported to the University of California, Davis Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Ramos said there was no indication that intoxicants were involved in the collision, and that the driver appeared to have been obeying all traffic laws.
