Cause of fire at vacant Rancho Cordova house investigated

Fire officials are investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed the garage of a vacant residence in Rancho Cordova early this morning.

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District crews were dispatched to a report of flames at a house in the 3300 block of Romford Way. They arrived to find the garage on fire and already collapsing, according to a Fire District news release.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the garage, preventing it from spreading to the house or attic. No other structures were damaged.

Twenty-four firefighters responded and extinguished the fire within 22 minutes of being dispatched.

No one was found inside the house.

Officials said the cause of the fire is considered suspicious. Anyone with information regarding the fire is asked to call the Metro Fire Arson Tip Line at (916) 859-3775.
