Fire at Rancho Cordova restaurant probably intentional, officials say

Arson is suspected in a fire at Sheepherder Bar and Grille in Rancho Cordova.

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District personnel were called to the restaurant at about 4:45 a.m. today to find a storage shed and an exterior wooden staircase on fire.

The fire was quickly extinguished but not before causing an estimated $12,000 in damage.

Cause of the fire is being investigated, but authorities found indications that the blaze was intentionally set, a press release states.

A 2007 Bee restaurant review said that Sheepherder was originally built as the Citrus Inn in 1913, or maybe 1912 -- the historical record is unclear.
