Placer County residents who want an inside look at their sheriff's department can sign up for the Community Awareness Academy.
Topics include air operations, search and rescue, bomb squad, the Special Enforcement Team, the boat unit, investigations, hostage negotiators, the canine unit and the drug task force.
Field trips are planned to the jail and morgue, the dispatch center and the air operations hangar.
Classes are held Monday and Wednesday evenings, Oct. 1 through Oct. 29 from 6 to 9 p.m. Those who sign up must attend all eight classes.
Classes are held in the community room at the sheriff's headquarters in the Auburn Justice Center, 2929 Richardson Drive.
