A man who reportedly fired shots into a Rancho Cordova motel room early this evening was found dead in another room hours later.
Sacramento County sheriff's spokesman Deputy Jason Ramos said indications are that the 34-year-old man died of a self-inflicted gunshot.
Sheriff's SWAT officers evacuated the Extended Stay America motel at 10721 White Rock Road after receiving a report that a man who had been staying at the motel for several days had fired shots into another room about 5:30 p.m.
Ramos said the man had gotten into a dispute with people staying in a nearby room and he reportedly stood outside the second-floor room and fired multiple gunshots through the window.
A man, woman and baby were inside the room, but none of them was injured, Ramos said.
The gunman reportedly was seen heading into another room and authorities believed he was in the room where he had been staying. After trying for several hours to contact him, deputies sent a robot into the room shortly after 10:30 p.m. and the man was found deceased.
The man's name has not been released pending notification of relatives.
