Update: Three arrested for homicide in Arden Arcade pot deal that went awry

Gabriel McAlister, 30, Marcus Logan, 21, and Angel Tewksbury, 23, have been arrested on suspicion of robbery and homicide in the death of Timothy Schweiss, 25, of Sacramento.

On Tuesday night, Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies arrived at the Somerset Apartments about 10:45 p.m. to find the wounded Schweiss. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:32 p.m.

That night, detectives determined that those responsible for the shooting were still at the apartment complex, according to a sheriff's department press release.

On Wednesday morning, the apartment complex was securely surrounded. Investigators gathered evidence and conducted more interviews.

Deputies also detained McAlister, Logan and Tewksbury at the apartment for questioning. Based on interviews and on-the-scene evidence, detectives booked the three into Sacramento County Jail late Wednesday.

The sheriff's department is not disclosing details on specifics of the crime, such as who pulled the trigger on the gun that killed Schweiss. However, "each took an active role in the events that led to Schweiss' murder," according to the press release.

The shooting, according to the sheriff's department, was related to a marijuana transaction that ended with Schweiss being robbed and shot in the upper body.

The shooting occurred in the parking lot outside the apartments.

Residents of the complex said that Schweiss lived in an apartment there and was often seen scavenging for cans and bottles in the area.

Island Bramlett, a resident, said arguments, violence, and occasional gunfire are common in the neighborhood. "It's always crowded out here at night," he said. "Especially these warm summer nights -- these youngsters are out."

When he heard two shots Tuesday night, he ignored them at first. Then, he said, "When I heard that lady scream, I knew something had happened."

He came outside to see Schweiss flailing on the ground where the apartment complex's driveway meets Edison Avenue. Bystanders were trying to help him, and paramedics arrived soon afterward.
