Antelope man injured in drive-by shooting in Citrus Heights

Citrus Heights police are investigating a drive-by shooting that wounded an Antelope man this morning.

Officers responded to the area of Kanai Avenue and Auburn Boulevard at 10:51 a.m. regarding a report of a drive-by shooting into a vehicle. They said the victim, a man in his early 20s, called 911 immediately after he was shot.

The victim was alert and talking when emergency personnel arrived, according to a Police Department news release. He was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were believed to be serious but not life-threatening, authorities said. No one else was injured.

Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots and seeing a red compact passenger vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed. Police said no suspects have been identified, and investigators are still trying to determine a motive for the shooting.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call the Citrus Heights Police Department at (916) 727-5500.
