QUESTION: Has there been any outcome for the shooting death of Dawayne Douglas? He was shot and killed July 4, 2010.
Submitted by: Jessica, Sacramento
ANSWER: Imari Malik Powell pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of 21-year-old Dawayne Edward Douglas.
According to stories in The Bee, the shooting at a party near Rutter Park in south Sacramento County occurred in the heat of passion. Prosecutors said Powell became enraged when he learned at the party that Douglas had abused Powell's mother.
Douglas ran from the scene after being shot in the 7700 block of Scottsdale Drive and collapsed on Florinda Way. He died later at an area hospital.
Powell, 20, was sentenced in August 2011 and is incarcerated at California State Prison Los Angeles in Lancaster.
