QUESTION: Can you please tell me who was convicted for the murder of David Dale Fry? The victim in his 30s was stabbed multiple times with a knife after being pulled into an apartment in his complex. What happened with this case?

ANSWER: A mother and son were arrested on suspicion of fatally stabbing 35-year-old David Dale Fry in October 2009, but the district attorney declined to charge them with murder.
According to the stories in The Bee, Regina Lee Grant, 47, and her son, Gerardo Verde Hernandez, 23, were arrested after sheriff's deputies found Fry lying on the ground in an apartment complex in the 5300 block of Marconi Avenue. He had been stabbed and was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
Witnesses interviewed at the time indicated that Grant and Hernandez had fought with Fry before the stabbing, but witnesses interviewed later provided conflicting accounts.
Grant was released from jail. Her son was held on an unrelated burglary charge, to which he later pleaded no contest.
