QUESTION: What became of the two people arrested in Lincoln for possession of multiple firearms and hand grenades. One of them was a woman, the other a man. Have they gone to court yet? What was the outcome?
Submitted by: Jim, Boston
ANSWER: Eric William Smith and Jennifer Mulhern, both of Lincoln, were arrested in January 2011 following a drug and gang investigation by the Roseville Police Department's Crime Suppression Unit.
The search of a home in the 800 block of Turner Place in Lincoln and a self-storage unit in the 100 block of Joiner Parkway led to the seizure of drugs and firearms, including eight military-style assault rifles, three grenades and several thousand rounds of ammunition, according to police.
Smith and Mulhern were arrested at that time on suspicion of drug possession, participation in a criminal street gang and numerous weapons charges. Mulhern was released on $50,000 bail and Smith was held in lieu of $1 million bail.
In March 2011, Smith was indicted by a federal grand jury in Sacramento for being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a machine gun and a felon in possession of explosive materials.
According to federal court online records, Smith, 37, pleaded guilty to all three counts in May of this year. He is currently in Sacramento County Jail and is to be sentenced Nov. 7.
