Auburn police officers arrested a local man after authorities found him early Tuesday in an industrial complex near a stolen Placer County fleet truck possessing the vehicle's key.

The truck and the key were previously reported stolen to the California Highway Patrol, said Sgt. Victor Pecoraro of the Auburn Police Department.

Pecoraro said an officer noticed the stolen truck at the Auburn Airport industrial complex at 12:53 a.m. Tuesday. Officers then located Stephen Michael Eaton, 45, of Auburn, and a woman in the area.

"We suspect that he has knowledge or was involved in the theft," Pecoraro said. "He had trouble explaining why he had (the key)."

Eaton was arrested on suspicion of possessing stolen property and booked into Placer County jail in lieu of $30,000.
