A 53-year-old man has been arrested for investigation of manslaughter in the boating collision Saturday evening on Englebright Lake that left two people dead and two others injured, a Yuba County Sheriff's official said today.
Sheriff's Lt. Damon Gil said Jeffrey Sandow of Auburn was arrested this morning at the Yuba County Sheriff's Department.
Gil said the investigation shows Sandow was under the influence of alcohol while piloting one of the two power boats in the collision. The Sheriff's Department received a report on the crash shortly after 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
Identifications of the two people killed as a result of the impact were being withheld until families could be notified, Gil said. Those victims along one of those injured were aboard the boat that collided with Sandow's vessel.
One of two passengers in the Sandow boat also was injured.
"Our investigators are still trying to retrieve the vessels today," Gil said. "That will be a significant part of the investigation."
Gil described the recreational site, which is near the border for Yuba and Nevada counties, as a popular camping area with lots of boating, fishing and family activities.
