Cynthia Lynn Van Holland was sentenced to 10 years in prison today for 21 bank robberies, a Department of Justice press release said. Van Holland must also pay more than $33,000 in restitution, according to United States District Judge Kimberly J. Miller's sentence.
Van Holland, 48, is described as a "transient" from the states of Idaho and Washington. Van Holland robbed banks across California, Washington, Oregon and Montana. The last bank she robbed was a Bank of the West branch in Auburn on Aug. 15, after which a witness saw her flee and reported her license plate number.
During the bank robberies Van Holland wore a variety of "unusual wigs and disguises" the release said, resulting in her 'Bad Hair Bandit' title.
