A man was booked on attempted homicide charges and various other crimes after fleeing El Dorado County deputies Tuesday in a stolen lumber truck.
Dustin James Woodruff, 27, is suspected of shooting and beating Bryan Santana, 35, of Placerville on July 2. In July, Santana showed up at a Placerville hospital complaining of injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident.
Doctors thought he had been shot. Deputies were summoned and Santana admitted to being shot. However, at the time, he didn't know who did the shooting.
Further investigation led deputies to suspect Santana had been kidnapped and shot by Woodruff. Deputies also suspected Woodruff of several property crimes.
Woodruff was spotted about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday driving a stolen Meeks Lumber pickup truck on County Road E16 near Somerset. Deputies chased him for 23 minutes over 16 miles, once using a spike strip to flatten the truck tires.
He eventually lost control, hit an embankment and rolled the truck. Woodruff fled on foot but was caught and arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide, kidnapping and multiple property crimes.
