The Yolo County Sheriff's Office is alerting students and parents in Winters to a man who reportedly tried to lure a 10-year-old boy into his vehicle on Sunday.
The incident occurred at 6 p.m. The boy and a group of friends were walking along Russell Boulevard, heading home from a fast-food restaurant. One of the friend's parents picked up the others in the group, but there wasn't enough room for the 10-year-old, who continued walking alone. As he neared Brinley Drive, a Latino man in a gold-colored car stopped across Russell Boulevard and told the boy to get in the vehicle, according to a Sheriff's Office news release.
The boy ran to a nearby neighbor's residence. The youngster told deputies that he had never seen the man or the vehicle before.
The boy described the man as 20 to 30 years old, overweight, bald, clean-shaven and wearing a black T-shirt and a gold chain around his neck. He described the vehicle as an older, four-door, gold-colored car with a layer of dust on it, as though it had been driven in a field.
Sheriff's officials said they have asked administrators at Waggoner Elementary, Shirley Rominger Intermediate and Winters Middle schools to notify students and parents of the incident.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at (530) 668-5280.
