Update: Citrus Heights police release more information on fatal stabbing

Citrus Heights police this morning are investigating the fatal stabbing of a man found last night outside his residence.

Police were called about 10:50 p.m. to a home in the 5600 block of Mariposa Avenue across the street from Skycrest Elementary School. Initially, residents of the home tried to render aid to the man.

Once police arrived, officers also attempted life-saving efforts. However, the man was pronounced dead shortly after police responded.

Police said it appears that the man was attacked in front of the house. The victim's name has not been released, however, he is described as being in his late 20s or early 30s.

The motive for the stabbing is not known. Police do not have any information to indicate the killing is gang related.

Investigators continue to gather evidence this morning.
