A Folsom man was sentenced today in federal court in Sacramento to five years in prison for receiving child pornography.
Matthew Mark Battersby, 44, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Kimberly J. Mueller. Upon release from prison, he will be subject to 10 years of supervised probation, according to a federal Department of Justice news release.
According to court documents, in September 2011, law enforcement officers identified a computer at Battersby's address offering files of child pornography on an Internet file-sharing service. Law enforcement agents established a direct connection with Battersby's computer and downloaded a video of child pornography. On Sept. 22, 2011, agents searched Battersby's residence and found approximately 15 image files and 179 video files of child pornography on his computer, authorities said.
The case resulted from an investigation by the Sacramento Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, a federally and state-funded task force managed by the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department with agents from federal, state and local agencies. The Sacramento task force investigates online child exploitation crimes, including child pornography, enticement and sex trafficking.
