Lawyer hurts knee, Hirschfield trial delayed

The Richard Joseph Hirschfield murder trial in Sacramento Superior Court was delayed today when one of the defense attorneys injured her knee in a first-floor courthouse lobby slip-and-fall.

Linda Parisi sustained the injury before the fifth day of testimony in the trial of HIrschfield, 63, who is accused of murder and sexual assault in the slashing deaths of 18-year-old UC Davis students Sabrina Gonsalves and John Riggins nearly 32 years ago.

Sheriff's deputies took Parisi out of the courthouse today in a wheelchair that had been used to transport her client.

It was not clear when Parisi would be able to return.

The prosecution had scheduled 16 witnesses to testify today in front of Judge Michael W. Sweet.
