Two Sacramento men hired to work on a Yolo County man's truck have been arrested after they allegedly stole the truck and tools.
The man contacted the Yolo County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday, reporting that he had hired two men, identified as Robert Silver, 43, and Howard Glenn Rasberry, 52, after seeing their advertisement on Craigslist. He said he hired them to remove parts from one truck and install them on another vehicle.
The victim told sheriff's deputies that he provided the men with the tools needed to complete the job, then left them alone to do the work. When he returned, his 1989 Chevrolet S10 pickup was gone, along with a pressure washer, a compressor, a table saw and numerous hand tools.
Using the cell phone number that the suspects had given the victim, sheriff's deputies contacted Silver and Rasberry. The two men came to the Sheriff's Office with the stolen tools and were arrested in the parking lot, according to a Sheriff's Office news release.
Sacramento police subsequently recovered the victim's truck near Rasberry's residence on Cambridge Street in Sacramento, authorities said.
Silver and Rasberry were booked at Yolo County's Monroe Detention Facility on suspicion of vehicle theft and grand theft, and are being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.
Sheriff's officials urge people to use caution when dealing online with anyone they do not know. They advise following precautions such as those outlined on Craigslist, and using licensed vendors to minimize the chances of becoming the victim of a scam.
