Placer County inmate dies after treatment for injuries suffered in fight

A Placer County inmate died in the hospital after treatment for injuries suffered in a jailhouse fight.

Dilbert Parmelee, 63, of Roseville, was involved in a fight with another inmate at 10:30 p.m. Aug. 27 in the Placer County Jail. The injured Parmelee was transported to the hospital where he underwent surgery.

Parmelee died on Friday. He had been in jail for violating conditions of his parole.

The inmate who fought with Parmelee has been identified, according to an e-mail from the Placer County Sheriff's Office. Deputies are reviewing circumstances surrounding the incident with the district attorney's office before deciding what charges will be filed.
