Rocklin teacher arrested in student sex case

A 33-year-old high school teacher was arrested by the Rocklin Police Department on Monday and is being held on suspicion of having an "unlawful intimate relationship" with a 17-year-old female student.

Matthew Yamamoto, a Whitney High School physics teacher, remain in Placer County jail pending $100,000 bail, said Lt. Lon Milka, a spokesman for the department.

He faces charges for child molestation and for arranging for a meeting with a minor for purposes of committing a lewd act.

Milka said the department received a call from a parent suspecting an inappropriate relationship on Saturday. Detectives were able to confirm enough facts to make an arrest, Milka said. He said the relationship was sexual in nature and had been going on for a couple months.

Milka said they are looking into whether there are any other victims.

Yamamoto lives in Rocklin.
