Roseville gardeners continue to be the target of thieves who rip them off while they are busy performing lawn maintenance.
Thieves are taking commercial-grade lawn mowers, leaf-blowers and other landscaping equipment from the pickups and trailers of working gardeners. Police have created a flyer in English and Spanish warning gardeners of the spate of thefts.
Recent thefts:
A chain that secured a lawn mower in a gardener's trailer was cut while the crew was working near Douglas Boulevard and Professional Way on Friday. The stolen mower was later found by the gardener in a nearby dumpster. Police believe the mower was stashed there to be retrieved later by the thief.
- A lawn mower, leaf blowers, a grass trimmer and a hedge trimmer were stolen from a gardener's trailer last Thursday. The theft occurred in the West Park area.
- A leaf blower, grass trimmer and hedgers were taken from a gardener's truck in the 6500 block of Alder Park Circle last Tuesday.
In two of the thefts, Chevrolet trucks were seen in the vicinity and may be connected to the thefts.
From the flyer that Roseville police are providing for gardeners:
-- Mark your equipment using paint or an engraver, and keep a record of your tools: brand names,
models, and serial numbers.
-- Keep a close eye on your vehicles and equipment at all times if possible.
-- Call 911 immediately if your equipment is stolen, or you see anyone "snooping" around your truck or trailer. Be ready to give a description of the suspicious person and their vehicle.
