Sheriff's deputies are searching for assailants in the neighborhood around West La Loma Drive in Rancho Cordova after two people were fatally shot in an apartment this evening.
Sgt. Jason Ramos said deputies were called to the area about 8:45 p.m. He said an 11-year-old girl had gone from her home to an apartment across the street at 2086 West La Loma. As she entered the apartment, two individuals rushed in behind her, knocking her to the floor.
The girl got up and ran from the apartment. As she ran back across the street to her own apartment complex, she heard two gunshots. She told her family what happened and they called 911.
Ramos said deputies went to the apartment and found two adults dead, each with a single gunshot wound. The victims have not been identified. Ramos said one was a woman who appeared to be in her 50s and the other was a man, possibly in his 60s. Investigators have not determined whether one or both lived in the apartment.
He said the girl was not injured.
Ramos said deputies are canvassing the neighborhood, but the only description they have of the attackers is that both wore dark clothes.
