The Yuba County Sheriff's Department is investigating a report that someone shot into an occupied vehicle in the East Linda community Wednesday night.
Deputies responded to the 6000 block of Gossett Avenue just before 11 p.m. after a 28-year-old woman reported that someone had shot at her vehicle. The woman told deputies that she and her 27-year-old boyfriend were in her Ford Explorer southbound on Gossett Avenue when a northbound vehicle drove up beside them.
One of the people in the northbound vehicle got out of the car and attempted to enter the Explorer, according to a Sheriff's Department news release. The boyfriend, who was driving the Explorer, accelerated to prevent the man from getting into the vehicle. As they drove away, the occupants reported hearing what sounded like a gunshot, followed by something striking their vehicle.
Deputies found a gunshot hole in the rear of the Explorer, but no one was injured in the incident.
The suspect vehicle -- described as a smaller, red, four-door sedan -- reportedly drove off toward North Beale Road with four males inside.
Investigators say they believe the incident is related to a previous dispute, and they are working to identify the suspects.
