QUESTION: Was anybody convicted in the murder of Fritz Bieth? I believe it happened in the mid 1980s, and what was the reason of his murder? I believe he was found shot to death in the back of his van in Yuba City.

ANSWER: According to court documents, Fritz Bieth, the owner of a Sacramento company, Floratech, who had developed and patented a method of raising orchids, was killed May 17, 1991 by a business partner.
Marysville police officers found Bieth's body in his van in a motel parking lot. He had been beaten and shot to death.
Arvind Daya was convicted of second-degree murder.
The prosecutor said the murder was motivated by personal animosity and financial gain. At the time of his death, Bieth had a $1 million life insurance policy naming Daya and another business partner as beneficiaries.
Daya, 62, is incarcerated at Chuckawalla Valley State Prison in Blythe.
