A search continues for the driver whose vehicle struck a 60-year-old pedestrian in Arden-Arcade in September, and authorities still seek the public's help in collecting information about the incident.
A second driver whose car also struck the pedestrian after he was knocked down sometime before 8:45 p.m. Sept. 27 has been identified. That 61-year-old driver, who works for Elk Grove Taxi, is not likely to face charges in connection with the incident, said California Highway Patrol Officer Lizz Dutton.
The CHP said the taxi driver was southbound on Fulton Avenue north of Hurley Way when he made a U-turn and began driving north on Fulton.
The driver felt a vibration and pulled over, thinking there was a problem with his taxi, but witnesses told him he had struck a man later identified as Phillip Jensen, who was lying in the roadway where the driver made the U-turn, Dutton said.
Jensen was taken to a local hospital, where he died.
Dutton said CHP investigators believe Jensen was struck by another vehicle before the taxi driver hit him. The driver of the first vehicle is believed to have fled the scene and has not been identified.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the CHP at (916) 338-6710 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP. Callers can remain anonymous and might be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
